G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) Synopsis :

DMZ, North Korea; The G.I. Joes are infiltrating a military base. Duke (Channing Tatum), Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), and Flint (DJ Cotrona) go sneaking in while Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki) is keeping an eye out and Mouse (Joseph Mazzello) is their sniper. Mouse shoots the coffee mug of one soldier to cause a diversion. Suddenly, Roadblock is alerted and surprised to see a flag of the Joes standing at the base.

There's a brief narration explaining how the Joes caught Cobra Commander and Destro (in the previous film), and they are now locked in a maximum security prison. Duke is the captain leading Roadblock, Flint, Jaye, and the masked mute Snake Eyes (Ray Park). However, Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) and Zartan (Arnold Vosloo) are still at large. (Note: no mention is made of the Baroness whom is presumed to be still incarierated.)

Sometime later, Duke and Roadblock are playing video games at the latter's home. Duke gets jumped by Roadblock's two daughters. The men see on television that th.......

Goofs: Factual errors: At the prison scene, a warning sign reads "Baustelle! Betreten der Einfahrt verboten!" which translates to "Construction site! Do not enter the gateway/entrance!". This is complete nonsense because first the prison is not a construction site. Second, the warning sign would ask you to stay away from the premises, not the gateway ("Betreten der Baustelle verboten" or just "Betreten verboten").

Plot: The G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. Full summary »  »

Story: Framed for crimes against the country, the G.I. Joe team is terminated by the President's order, and the surviving team members face off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence. Written byAnonymous

G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) Review by Z ML from Philippines

It sucks that they had to put up a poster of this movie with Duke(Channing Tatum) and Joe (Bruce Willis) so grossly misleading when Dukeshowed up about what 10 mins or so then dies and Joe shows up when halfof the movie is already finished, and not getting much burn at that (Ishould have known, how many of Willis's recent movies has been likethis already). For an average movie goer like me (i'd like to think ofmyself like that) that doesn't normally go researching(goggling stuff)before watching a movie, I was sucked up by the poster itself expectinga whole lot of Duke and Joe in action. In my opinion, The Rock is not abad actor himself but sadly he is not able to carry the movie byhimself. I believe the movie producers/marketers or whoever isresponsible for creating that misleading poster cheated people fortheir money. To be honest I am not sure I would be going to watch themovie in theater had I known I would be only getting this much, It'sone of the movies I could have waited to be available on HBO\TV or onDVD. I did like the special effects though, especially the mountainaction scenes.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) Review by naregian from United States
As a film buff, I love seeing films alone on Saturday afternoons orFriday nights. As as result of my frequent attendance, I have come toknow not to expect much from action blockbuster films. Yes, you getyour usual incomprehensible hand-to-hand fights, buildings explodingand enemy gunfire as inaccurate as ever, with the inevitably minimalplot and screenplay. As the ending credits rolled, I stood up thinking"ehhh". The film definitely had some amazingly entertaining actionsequences and awesome special effects, but you know, you can't reallybe THAT amazed with an action film. Not gonna lie, the screenplay inthis film was pretty well written, and it included quite a fewpleasantly surprising laughs. Dwayne Johnson has a big few months aheadof him with the release of Snitch (which I give a 7/10), the next Fastand Furious movie, and Pain & Gain. With this film, he did reinforcehis true acting credentials, even though not much notable acting isobserved in such a genre. All in all, if you're expecting somethinglike Olympus Has Fallen, you might be dissatisfied. If you go in likeme, with no true expectations other than hoping for some entertainment, you might like what you see.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) Review by HeartMonger from Mind of the Films
It's amazing how many good movies produced this year have beenrelegated to sub-par status, while others that shouldn't be given aglance are given zenith status as great pieces of work, art, and othersuch pop-cultural sub- standard excrescences achieve more than theirworth in fool's gold. One such picture - I'm sorry - movie, thataudiences will endure a release of, either glorifyingly, or harshly, isG.I. Joe: Retaliation, the new brawn packed action farce from ParamountPictures.

Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and with appearances by BruceWillis and Channing Tatum, the film offers no social commentary, consists of nothing remotely engaging (I tended to doze off on even theaction scenes), and pities itself with egregious CGI 3-D effects thatdisappear mid-air depending on where one sits in the audience. There isno basis for being an audience member, because the effects are sojarring, that the viewer will not be able to involve itself to anythingworth sitting for an hour and forty minutes for (which trust me, therewouldn't be anyway.) But that's not the half of the film's problems.

The real problem stems from lack of plot. More like no plot. The filmis supposed to be a sequel, or rather, a continuation of the originalG.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, but even by todays standards, thefilmmakers weren't trying to mark any new ground. All we get is oneaction sequence after another. Even James Cameron knows you need athrough-line of plot device to make these kinds of movies work, butdirector Jon M. Chu doesn't have enough respect for the audience toeven give them that. Instead, we are mindlessly treated to fast shotsof punches being thrown, with no idea who is throwing them, why, or ifwe should care.

Seriously. We only know one thing. The good guys will always win. Nevera good sign when you go to the movies to know how they end, with noconscious minding of what it will take to get there. Don't waste yourmoney, my friends. Still, more muscular contractions ache this bastardof a performer.

Those involved knew this was just a paycheck - examine the evidence;Dennis Quaid did not return, and subsequently they need Bruce Willis tocarry the big name legacy. Channing Tatum has his screen timeterminally reduced, not a great sign because most audiences willprobably be wanting to see the film solely for his performance. Thewriter was clearly hired to write a how-to on perfecting scripts forCGI based stories. This wouldn't be such an insult to film purists andenthusiasts alike if it wasn't such a dreary waste of time and money. There is nothing there in terms of story or structure. The moviestarts, and it's action scenes strung together with no link. Then youleave. I would disclose such a plot to entice what viewers maychallenge the notion of wasting their money if such a plot existed! It's a disgusting practice of show-off acrobatics by computer geniusesthat would be better suited decrypting or ciphering codes left behindfrom the Zodiac Killer or the Unabomber! This is not why we go to themovies. We go to be entertained, and I predict that many an audiencemember be robbed of their hard earned cash in this recession, and bysuch standards and caused an equal recession in film quality! Honestly, there has to be a better place for films in today being tomorrow'shistory, than this!

An early release for such a seemingly summer blockbuster - it's obviousParamount wants to get this one out of the way, so they don't have toworry about a summer release tanking to the bottom of the swimming pool(a place where the pre-teens normally disposed to this mendicant tarwould be better off spending the day.) It's futile to promote a productwithout any real integrity, or so I thought. Amazing what a littlemuscle can do. It's already seen some couple million smackers (acrossthe face!) for it's previews and advance releases, but when it allcomes down, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is one hunk of movie that holds astrong PR campaign in it's biceps, but can't think for itself, andnever latches on to the timeless fact that the real strength of a movielies in it's story and it's characters, both factors of the machinethat are simultaneously weak.
