A friend invited me to a Sundance USA event in San Francisco, wherethey take 10 films from the festival and show them in different citiesaround the US. I had no idea what the movie was even about, andobviously no expectations.

I was completely blown away. 'In a World' was one of the funniest,cleverly-written and flawlessly edited movies I've seen this year(2012-present). From Demetri Martin, Rob Cordry and Lake Bell herself,the acting was fantastic. I had seen Lake Bell in 'How to Make it inAmerica' and thought she was great, but I had no idea how unbelievablytalented she is (i.e. playing an accent- obsessed speech coach/aspiringvoice-over actress who does probably 10+ flawless accents throughoutthe movie...a movie she wrote and directed as well. No big deal).

I'm not sure if this movie is getting distributed to a wider audience,but I'm grateful my friend convinced me to go. If you have a chance tocatch this, it's a must-see.

Lake Bell wrote, directed and starred in this comedy of a voice coachwho wants to make it as a voice-over star, a boy's club dominated byher famous father, the reigning king of movie trailer voice-overs. Thesmall group are competing for the voice-over role for an epic newblockbuster series that's bringing back Don LaFontaine's famous "In aWorld..." putting the father and daughter at conflict.

Currently making its rounds of the festivals, where it picked up theWaldo Salt Screen writing award at Sundance USA and was nominated forthe Grand Jury Prize. It's a great script that zips along, full ofbelievable characters, handles the central conflict deftly and is neverannoyingly quirky, just consistently funny.

Featuring an uncredited cameo by Cameron Diaz and a whole host ofcomedic talent from the LA circuit including Demetri Martin, KenMarino, Rob Corddry, Geena Davis, Nick Offerman and Eva Longoria. LakeBell confirmed at the Sundance London director's Q&A she'd written thescript with all her friends in mind but she is the stand-out, anchoringthe film and flawlessly delivering around different accents in herperformance.

A feminist film that delivers its message without forcing itself uponyou and puts the comedy foremost, it's great fun, well worth trackingdown at release and shows Lake Bell to be a great talent to watch.

Saw at L.A. Film Fest. Good indie comedy but not a must see. Caution:Very Mild spoilers

Key points: * It's about the Industry, so you will likely appreciate itmore if you're a part of the Creative Community; * Unique subjectmatter * Rob Corddry of Comedy Central is great as always * DmitriMartin was uber-likable but his comedy talents seemed under-utilized *I read a comment where someone said the script was not focused. Itotally disagree. The script was tight, had traditional crowd-pleasingelements, such as (1) the Wacky Mix Up amongst family members a la aThree's Company episode from the 70's (2) the shy Guy struggling totell the Girl he works with his feelings (3) The sneaking into an "offlimits" part of a stranger's house. * I don't begrudge these plotelements; I think they give the story a comfortable feeling that goesdown like meatloaf. *Last comment: Lake Wood should exercise hertalents behind the camera. Not compelling to look at (a commentregarding her screen presence).
